On August 20, Deadline published exclusive information that Tom Holland's Spider-Man was about to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). His character was once expected to replace Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) as the mainstay of the MCU in the future. However, after Spider-Man left Marvel, it is possible that the MCU will have to find a new pillar. Captain Marvel, Thor, or Doctor Strange may be the brightest candidates for this position.
1. CAPTAIN MARVEL
Marvel President Kevin Feige has confirmed that Carol Danvers will take on the leadership role in the upcoming steps of the MCU. There are many big plans outlined for her in the future. Just released earlier this year, but Captain Marvel has been considered one of the most powerful superheroes in the MCU.
During the San Diego Comic-Con 2019 event in July, Marvel Studios didn't announce any new projects about her to be released in the next 2 years. But chairman Kevin Feige has revealed that blockbuster Captain Marvel 2 is about to be deployed. Carol Danvers' future is still far ahead. Therefore, after the MCU has continuously lost long-time superheroes, Captain Marvel fans can fully expect her to become the new pillar.
2. BLACK PANTHER
Just like Captain Marvel, in the next 2 years, the Black Panther's second movie probably won’t be released yet. But those who love this superhero can be assured because Marvel president Kevin Feige himself has confirmed Black Panther 2 is in the process of pre-production. This is also a character with an open future in the new phase of the MCU.
The black panther is likely to become a mainstay of the movie universe, following the departure of Iron Man, Captain America and more recently Spider-Man due to a broken deal between Sony and Disney.
Black Panther is a superhero who is smart, agile and has tough fighting skills. He is the owner of Wakanda, a kingdom that stores large quantities of Vibranium, a precious metal, and possesses advanced technological advances ahead of its time. The Black Panther also owns a huge fortune. MCU needs a special superhero, strong support of such technology and finance after losing Tony Stark. That's why he deserves to be a candidate for the pillar position.
3. DOCTOR STRANGE
In July, Marvel Studios revealed the official title of Doctor Strange 2: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Madness and the scheduled release of the film is May 2021. This shows the possibility that the Ultimate Witch will partner with the MCU for a long time, at least for the next 2 years.
As a guardian of the entire multiverse and a bright future, he has the potential to become the pillar of this movie universe. In the next individual film about the sorcerer performed by Benedict Cumberbatch, the audience certainly has the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the concept of the multiverse as the title suggests. The film's setting is about a few years after Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far from Home.
After traveling time to return the six stones to their original locations in Endgame, Captain America (Chris Evans) chose to grow old and decided to retire. This is an important turning point for the future of MCU. Steve Rogers handed Captain America's shield to his best friend Sam Wilson. If Sam really becomes the new Captain America, he is most likely to assume the leader position of the Avengers team and the pillar of the MCU.
The Thunder God is one of the first generation superheroes of the MCU who has survived many consecutive events. Many sources reported that Chris Hemsworth had extended his contract with Marvel Studios. The actor has expressed his desire to continue sticking with the MCU: "Nobody knows what the future will be like, but I will accept any offers."
At the San Diego Comic-Con 2019 event in July, Marvel announced the next individual movie project of the Thunder God in phase 4 called Thor: Love and Thunder, scheduled to release on November 2021. Joining this latest project are familiar cast members including Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tessa Thompson. The sequel to the Thor series made the audience excited when besides male Thor, a female version of Thor also appeared and starred by Natalie Portman. They are even more excited when a long-standing pillar remains with the MCU international he future.
