A story about journalism
The rumor about the musical genre spreading before was not true, but the context of "The French Dispatch" in Paris was confirmed. Anderson also revealed a bit about the film's content, which is "a love letter to journalists" that helped the American newspaper to have its own place in Paris in the 20th century.
According to Wes Anderson, the plot of the film is very difficult to explain. The film is about an American journalist setting up his editorial office in France. It portrays a journalist struggling to write what he wants.
Wes Anderson's favorite cast, and more
The casts of Wes Anderson's works have always received attention over the years but no other film has gathered as many powerful names as this one. "The French Dispatch" is like a symphony featuring the famous stars including Frances McDormand, Saoirse Ronan, Wilem Dafoe, Mathieu Amalric, Tilda Swinton and Adrien Brody. They are also his familiar partners as they collaborated in the work that won 4 golden statues of Oscars, "The Grand Budapest Hotel".
Most importantly, "The French Dispatch" is a historical reunion of Wes Anderson and Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Owen Wilson and Bob Balaban, his once-time teammates in the comedy "Rushmore". Wilson started his career in the cinema world by combining script writing and acting in their first film - "Bottle Rocket". Now, both have had the opportunity to re-collaborate in Anderson's 10th film.
Besides the familiar cast from his previous projects, this time, "The French Dispatch" will feature the participation of promising new names: Timothée Chalamet, the main actor of the phenomenal "Call Me By Your Name"; Benicio del Toro who won Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe and SAG awards for his role as Javier Rodriguez in the film "Traffic"; Kate Winslet, the beautiful Rose of "Titanic"; and Elisabeth Moss - the maid who won Primetime Emmy Award for Best Actress with "The Handmaid's Tale".
In addition, The French Dispatch also gathered many other talented actors such as Christoph Waltz, Lois Smith, Henry Winkler, Rupert Friend, Griffin Dune and French actors Denis Léa Seydoux, Ménochet, Guillaume Gallienne, Félix Moati and Vincent Macaigne.
Robert Yeoman – The man behind the fascinating scenes of "The Grand Budapest Hotel"
One of Wes Anderson's most important creative partners is none other than Robert Yeoman, the cinematographer who has worked on many projects with him since the "Bottle Rocket" era. In addition to stop-motion animations like "Fantastic Mr. Fox" and "Isle of Dogs", Robert Yeoman was involved in filming all of Anderson's works.
With "The Grand Budapest Hotel", he received nominations for Critics' Choice Movie Award, American Society of Cinematographers Award, BAFTA Award and Academy Award for Best Cinematography.
Music by Alexandre Desplat and Mark Mothersbaugh
Rumors of Wes Anderson producing musicals came when his collaboration with Mark Mothersbaugh was revealed. Although there will be no upcoming musicals, the songs appearing in "The French Distpatch" will still be penned by the former Devo member.
Fans of the talented director Wes Anderson are no stranger to composer Mark Mothersbaugh. The two had many collaborations in the early days of Anderson's director career through many memorable works: "Bottle Rocket", "Rushmore", "The Royal Tenenbums" and "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou". "The French Distpatch" will be a reunion work after 15 years of these two longtime colleagues.
Contributing in Anderson's 10th film was Alexandre Desplat, the French composer who accompanied him in "Fantastic Mr. Fox" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel". Alexandre won two Oscars and many other BAFTA nominations in his recent works for his outstanding music.
The return of an amazing crew
This is the 5th time American visual effects Andrew Weisblum has teamed up with Wes Anderson in film projects after "The Darjleeing Limited", "Fantastic Mr. Fox", "Moonrise Kingdom" and "Isle of Dogs". Anderson's Oscar-winning design team in "The Grand Budapest Hotel" will also be retained to dedicate in the upcoming movie. Therefore, the audience can fully expect great quality of context, costumes... from "The French Dispatch".
Anderson lives in Paris but this is the first film he makes in France. The exact location is said to be the city of Angoulême, capital of the province of Charente, southern France. The quiet, ancient countryside in this romantic country will surely guarantee poetic scenes for the movie.
Although Wes Anderson hinted that he would be able to finish the movie by the end of the year, it seems that 2020 is the right time to release the film. Some of Anderson's previous works were released in March after their premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in February, so many fans also hope "The French Dispatch" will follow that sequence. Many predict that the movie will be Anderson's first film to be released with Disney after "The Life Aquatic".
