“Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw” earns over $ 180 million after three days

"Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw” of The Rock and Jason Statham reaped quite a positive result on the last three days of last week.

Available in 4,253 North American box offices from August 2, "Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw" estimated at $ 60.8 million after the first three days of its release. However, the additional story of “Fast & Furious” series simultaneously opened much stronger in international markets with approximately $ 120 million, thereby giving the global total of $ 180.8 million.

The external project of “Fast & Furious” were announced by Vin Diesel and Universal in November 2015. However, they did not say which character would be the focus of the new work. It was not until October 2017 that the names Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Jason Statham were revealed.

"Hobbs & Shaw" was released in 62 countries and territories last weekend and took the top spot at the box office in 52 markets. The Russian market is leading with $ 8.2 million. Following names are the UK market ($ 7.8 million), Indonesia market ($ 7.7 million), Indian market ($7.4 million), Mexico market ($ 6.9 million) and Japanese market ($ 6.6 million).

According to Universal, "Hobbs & Shaw" is the third-highest international opening film of the brand when following only "Fast & Furious 7" and "Fast & Furious 8". In North America alone, its opening achievement ranks only the brand's 5th position when excluding inflation. For The Rock and Jason Statham alone, "Hobbs & Shaw" is the highest opening in North America for their career if not counting the previous “Fast & Furious” movies. Also, $ 60.8 million is also the highest opening milestone of this summer's movie season if excluding superhero films or Disney's releases.

"Hobbs & Shaw" received relatively good reviews from both the press and the audience. According to Rotten Tomatoes, 67% of film reviews are positive. Meanwhile, according to the post-screening survey of Cinema Score, the audience gave A- score for the movie.

According to observers, "Hobbs & Shaw" has a production budget of no less than $ 180 million, excluding promotional costs. The success of the expanded story is still a big question for Universal because some markets are very interested in the main series, but are now indifferent to the expanded story. However, "Hobbs & Shaw" has not yet aired in Korea and China - the two most important international markets of “Fast & Furious” series. Especially, with a billion-dollar country, this is the place that brings about 1/3 of the global revenue of "Fast & Furious 8" and 1/4 of the global revenue of "Fast & Furious 7".
